For many, career success is defined by the joy they get from it. Many have not reached this point wherein their jobs give them utmost joy. The good news is that it’s not a lost cause. There are various ways on how can derive joy from their current job position.
Why is it even important for one to find success in his or her job or career? When you are happy with what you do in life, you will be more motivated to show up everyday at work. You become happy with your days, always smiling at what your job can give you on the daily. You will boost your mood and feel proud of what you are doing in life. It give you a sense of confidence and an overall happy outlook in life. Of course, if you are successful, you would be given more opportunities for a high paying job or an appraisal in your current company. You’d be able to take care of your monthly dues as well as do activities that you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t afford at that time.
As you further in your career, there will be many chances and observations that you could learn from and deduce a way to achieve your goals. The more successful you’d feel when you are able to fulfill your goals one by one. The more goals you achieve, the greater success you'll have. So how can you achieve this life?
1. Pick the right career.
There are some who are blessed to have stepped foot on a career that they love on their very first try. There are those who find it more difficult to pick what’s right for them. Even then, it’s just a matter of trial and error to be completely sure about what you want.
When you close your eyes, what do you see yourself doing? If it’s your current job, then consider yourself blessed to have it already figured out. This means your current job is able to meet your interests and needs, amplify your values and highlight your personality. You can always take a self-assessment test if you are confused. There will be questions that will guide you to the right path. If the test is not enough, talking with a career counselor can help you choose which profession will be right for you or you can do your own research if you’re still undecided.
Remember to listen to your own voice at the end of the day. Your family and friends will always have an opinion because they want what’s best for you. But you have to remember that it’s your life and as an adult, you must know how to make your own decisions so listen to you.
2. Define success in your own terms.
You can already be called successful if it meets your personal criteria for success. Shut the noise and what society tells you. The only standard you need to reach is what yourself sets. If for instance, you equate success to a monetary value, then when you’ve fattened your paycheck, that’s what being successful means to you. If your definition of success is stability, then having your own family and a strong business can help you expand it more.
The bottomline is you need to know what success is for you so when you reach it, you are able to proudly call yourself successful.
3. Acknowledge your mistakes.
One of the biggest mistakes you can do is to point fingers. Never blame others, just yourself when a mishap assigned to you goes wrong. For instance, if you’ve tried doing something a couple of times, that means it’s your problem if it still doesn’t work the nth time. It means there’s a missing equation that you yourself have to figure out. What we’re trying to say is that there is grace in defeat. Rising above it begins by acknowledging and owing up to your mistake in the past. Plus you can only fix something when you know what it is you are fixing.
4. Do not be shy to ask for help.
You can’t do everything on your own. For you to succeed, you need to accept that you need help from others. It will only make the output much more beautiful than what it is if you worked on it alone. There are many different expertise for each person so tap into people’s strengths and ask them to fill in the shoes for the expertise that you need.

5. Be hardworking.

When your colleagues and supervisors see that you have a good work ethic, you are most likely to be considered for a promotion.

6. Continuously enhance your skills.
Do not be complacent with what you know now. Any industry is always growing, always innovating so you wouldn’t want to be left out. There is always something to learn so don’t be stuck with what you already know and always choose to nourish your mind.
